1.1 The right DNA for the job |
|
|
Summary of Key Success Factor - KSF
1.1 |
|
You
don't become -- you are. Successful business
people are far more born than made. They have the
double-helix to succeed, the moxie to make it,
the right DNA for the job. |
|
|
|
|
1.1.1
You were born that way |
|
For the greater part,
what you innately are predisposes you to choose
what you pursue. It's in your genes. You were
born that way. When you follow your calling, you
are most likely to have the right DNA for the job
-- the double-helix to succeed. You don't become
-- you develop, optimize, maximize and realize
what you are. |
|
Your genes are
all-pervasive. Your genes influence your
behavior, personality, aptitudes, temperament,
disposition, attitudes, motivation, ambition.
Genes influence your every thought and action.
Your nature is as much a product of evolution as
your physique. You should view your
business career as an extension of your DNA. |
|
Think of your genes
influencing you as the 'prevailing wind that
blows throughout your life's journey.' This
analogy is simple, yet powerful. It describes
persistence, direction, force, the choice to go
with it or not, and the ease, speed and distance
you can travel with a favorable tailwind. |
|
Phenotypes (genetic
expressions) are the 'double-helix' forces that
drive success at the individual level and, when
you carefully choose small groups of people
(ideally five or less) whose phenotypes are
complementary, not antagonistic, they will
generate the winning genes-behavior dynamic at
the team level, i.e., they will bring together
all the behavioral competencies necessary to
attain their part of your firm's business
objective. MORE |

1.1.2
EQ -- meta-ability to succeed |
|
You can get ahead and
your organization can become more competitive
when you and your colleagues learn to master the
core competencies of emotional intelligence:
self-awareness, self-motivation and mood
management. |
|
|
|
1.1.3
Personality -- traits to succeed |
|
Are you one of the
20% of American boss-men boors whose antagonistic
attitude is that life is a free-for-all in which
it's every mean, selfish bastard for himself or
do you have the personality it takes to succeed
in business? |
|
|
|
1.1.4
IQ -- the intellect to succeed |
|
IQ matters. IQ is a
powerful predictor of job performance. But always
remember two things. One: by definition half the
population has below-average IQ. And two: the
difference between those who can think and those
who can do is motivation. IQ alone is never
enough. |
|
|
|
1.1.5
Habits -- guaranteed to succeed |
|
We are what we
habitually do. Habits are our best guarantee of
success in business. Because they are consistent,
often unconscious patterns, they constantly,
daily, express our character and produce our
effectiveness or our ineffectiveness. |
